The Urubamba River — The Celestial River — runs through the Sacred Valley and connects the vallies between the towns of Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Because it was believed that the River joins the celestial body of the Milky Way, the valley gained its sacred character.
Outfitted with rain gear, vests, oars and, not pictured, crash helmets, we boarded two rafts and took a two-hour ride down this celestial river. With the guidance of our trusty guides, we paddled through minor rapids and shallow waters and took a few photos along the way. We were rewarded for our efforts by an excellent picnic lunch. |
