The Sacred Valley of the Incas
The Sacred Valley stretches from Ollantaytambo along the Urubamba River to Pisac and was the heart of the Inca Empire from the 14th to the 15th centuries.

The valley was truly appreciated by the ancient Incas: its soil had the best qualities and produced the best maize; the weather was excellent, and this was the convergent point for numerous rivers that had their origins on the icy mountains.

Note: Although all the sites in the Sacred Valley are on the map, those identified in red are the ones we visited.
