Founded by 1000 BC, Cusco is identified as the - "Cultural Heritage of Mankind." The people exemplify that cultural heritage in their faces, life styles, languages and dress.
With a collective social system based on agriculture and an advanced spiritual life based on nature, the20th-century people reflect a blending of Peru's Indian and colonial past—a fascinating mix of Inca and Colonial ways-of-life. Peruvians are a among the most traditional and conservative people in South America. Although an unusually young population — 79% of the population is under 40 — it is extremely sophisticated. Yet, many of the rural Quechua Indians choose to live primitively and maintain the colorful native-style of dress. An agricultural community, they use techniques handed down through the ages to grow crops, prepare food and raise children. |
