Practitioners will increase rotations to 20 to 30 times a minute. They are able to do this by entering a hyperconscious state and attempt to maintain their physical axis (thus the lack of dizziness) while contemplating the shaikh (their link to Rumi and love of God) sitting in the center of a circle of dancers.

Most of the more colorful performances one sees in Egypt and elsewhere are danced by entertainers whirling endlessly while manipulating skirts in a colorful display.

Regardless of whether the dance is by performers or members of the Sufi order, the training and level of concentration is obvious and the results incredibly enjoyable to watch - and fun to photograph.
