The image, so beautifully carved into this entry way, of St George as a Roman soldier mounted on a fine Arabian horse and spearing a dragon is a familiar one throughout Old Cairo.

Through this passage is Saint George Church, a Greek orthodox temple built at the beginning of the 20th century and the Mar Girgis Church (St. George the Martyr) which was built on top of a Roman tower.
