  "Churches" of Cairo

Throughout Cairo, there are many buildings dedicated to the practice of many differing religious beliefs.

I believe you could spend countless hours photographing them all - one more beautiful than the next.

However, in addition to the Monastery of St. Simon Tanner, there are a few churches that have particular historical and/or religious significance and are "must sees" if you ever visit Cairo:

 

Religions in Egypt

Egypt is 90% of the population is Muslim (64,600,000) and the majority of the Muslim population is Sunni.

Christians represent about 10% of the population (7,300,000)and the Coptic church is the largest Christian group (6,500,000).

There are other small Christian groups such as standard Roman Catholics, Greek Orthodox and Armenian Orthodox (total of 776,000).

There are a few small Jewish communities.
