  Cairo - Abu Serga Church

Abu Serga Church Plaque

The Abu Serga Church is a 4th century church and is considered to be the oldest of Cairo's Christian churches.

Traditionally, it is believed to have been built on the spot where the Holy Family, Joseph, Mary and the infant Christ, rested at the end of their journey into Egypt.

The wall behind the sanctuary was covered with carved panels that feature arabesque designs inlaid with ivory and ebony.
