Lazarus Takawira, whose studio is within a few miles of Landela Lodge, is one of the most gifted Shona sculpturers. His work has been shown in throughout Europe and in the United States.
This was our first introduction to the creations of these most gifted and incredible artists. During the time we spent with this most gracious man, he explained the creative process and physical tasks involved in working with the different kinds of stone. He said that the stone will often guide the artist and affect the ambiance and appearance of the final piece.
As we continued on our travels we saw more examples of this amazing talent. Most of us came home with at least one "table-top" piece. One of us fell in love with this art and came home with a few more than one. Wanna guess who?
